Committee Purpose

The Safety & Livability Committee (S&L) of the Downtown Portland Neighborhood Association (DNA) advocates solutions to improve the safety and livability of downtown Portland. S&L works to increase community involvement to effect necessary changes in city policies, budgeting and enforcement to make the downtown neighborhood more livable for residents, students and business owners and more inviting for visitors and shoppers.

The S&L welcomes all volunteers who live, work, or attend school in the SW downtown area.  If you’re interested in exploring volunteer opportunities, please contact the Committee Chair.

Committee Focus

Identify safety and cleanliness issues that negatively impact businesses, residents, students and land owners.  During 2020 – 2023, the Safety & Livability Committee has been involved in activities such as:

  • Graffiti clean up patrols
  • Trash clean-up
  • Conversation with a Cop sessions
  • Take Up the Space Walks to take back our neighborhoods
  • Holiday Lights Tour
  • Festival of Lights Tour
  • Advocating for change to open air drug use policy in Portland
  • Arranging occasional guest speakers for DNA meetings

We welcome all good ideas!
