Committees

Committees and teams under the Portland Downtown Neighborhood Association (DNA).

Air Quality & Safety Committee

  • Portland has high levels of harmful diesel particulates
  • Three volunteers are learning the technology and politics:
       1. Placing additional sensors in DNA area.
       2. Developing affiliations with Portland Clean Air, PSU.
       3. Noting diesel effluent from construction sites.

Charter Committee

{Not currently meeting} The CC was formed in 2021 to learn about and report to the DNA on the work of the Portland Charter Review Commission (CRC). The CRC’s work is to review the city’s charter (constitution) in order to recommend changes. 

Homeless/Houseless Committee

  • Hosted an Educational Forum in November 2019 for 200+ attendees, including the mayor, county commissioner and a homeless panel.
  • Addresses short-term homeless needs until longer-term housing, medical, and rehabilitation projects are completed.
  • Volunteers regularly engaging homeless residents:
       1. Took census of downtown homeless in late summer of 2020 ~ 132.
       2. Advised City where to place 15 sanitary facilities.
       3. Distributes water in summer, socks & mittens in winter.
       4. Develops relationships . . .  for future referral assistance.

Land Use & Transportation Committee

  • 11 volunteers reviewed 20 developments in 2022.
  • Special emphasis on affordable housing.
  • Current issues:
       1. River Place – traffic congestion / density / displacement.
       2. E-scooters – pedestrian safety, contract issues.
       3. Pedestrian safety.
       4. Keller Auditorium.

Safety & Livability Committee

Safety and Livability

  • Recruiting volunteers to walk the city as ambassadors and observers during walkthroughs.
  • Affiliated with PSAC and Portland police.

Cleanup

  • Partner with SOLVE.
  • Adopt a Block.

Small Business

  • Supporting business recovery and cleanup.
  • Aligned with Rose City Collective.
